Although
they're cute and unique, crochet garments don't always have a positive ring to
them. Homespun garments are, in most cases, synonymous to '70's DIY aesthetics
and the '60's flower power that seem to be most appealing to bohemians. And
while many fashion bloggers are beginning to sport such clothing, crochet
clothes are yet to reach 'staple' status, sartorially speaking.
However,
there are different styling ways that can upgrade homespun dresses or tops in
the fashion barometer. When styled
right, you can actually look stunning in crochet outfits. Check out these 3
styling tips to avoid crochet-associated fashion pitfalls.

1. Too much is bad enough.
When wearing
crochet, steer clear from matching accessories. Although it makes sense to wear
something that's homespun, like a crochet necklace or headband, to compliment
the other, this is just a big no-no. Instead, be minimal with your accessories.
Forget espadrilles and high gladiator sandals too because they'll just make you
look like you're being casted to Mamma
Mia as a dancer. As for jewelry, keep it at a minimum.
2. Beware of the Woodstock look.
The music festival was held in
the late 1960s. At a time when crochet was popularly worn among by many
hippies. But that era is long and gone and wearing such in today's fashion
standard will just look too costume-y. That being said, avoid looking like Vanessa Hudgens unless you're really going to a three-day music festival.
3. Focus on a contemporary look.

To make your crochet ensemble look modern, pair your crochet top or shorts with modern pieces, like a crisp button-down shirt or skinny jeans. This way, you'll look more modern than someone who's stuck in the 60s or 70s era.
