Picking Up The Pieces: The Do's And Don'ts of Moving On

No one is ever prepared for a breakup, and it’s not something we look forward to. Ever. Indeed, having your heart broken sucks…BIG time.

Although bad breakups can be very messy and painful, know that it's not the end of the world. Yes, you may find it hard to let go and move on, and only time can tell when you can finally say, "I'm alright." or "Good riddance.", but the things you do during the process can make a whole lot of difference to enduring it.

So if you're under going a stressful breakup, here are some things you should and shouldn't do.

THE DO'S

1. Cry your heart out.
It doesn't matter how long your crying session will be, just let it all out until your tears run dry. After that, you'll be okay.

2. Go out and party.

Partying with friends is a welcome distraction to your aching heart.

3. Write it in a journal.
Putting words to your thoughts and emotions is quite therapeutic.

4. Listen to T-Swift's songs.
Because Taylor totally understands what you're going through right now. She always does.

5. Keep yourself busy.
Moping around the corner doesn’t help you to move on, Why? because you have a lot of time in your hands, which tend to welcome unwanted memories. Distract yourself by getting off the couch with these 99 free things to do outside your home.

6. Talk with friends.
Friends and love ones are the people who got your back no matter what.

THE DON'TS

1. Don't call.
How can you move on if it's his voice you want to hear? Ghost calling won't help either. Trust me.

2. Don't stalk.
It's a smart move when you unfollow or block him from all your social media accounts. Doing this won't temp you to check up on him every once in a while.

3. Don't let the world know.
No one wants to read about your breakup woes on Facebook. You don’t want him to think that you can’t literally live without him either.

4. Don't get into a rebound relationship.
Because its simply toxic. You’re using another human being just to make your ex jealous? Are you nuts?

5. Don't punish yourself.
Not everything is under your control. So don't beat yourself to it.

6. Don’t be bitter.
Don’t let a bad experience and a broken heart stop you from enjoying the beautiful things life can offer.

And that's it. I hope that helps.

  3. Great break up tips! I totally agree with everything, especially with your don't do list. Rebound relationships are never fair to the other person...and if we are a decent person, we really should not do it....and blocking on social media is a smart move too....far from heart, far from mind as they say.

  4. Ah, I think a big issue with today's breakups is that social media allows such easy access to see what's going on in the lives of others - breakups must be tough right now with that in mind!!
